BriSCA F1 Stockcar Racing
Much has been written about the sport since its inception in the 1950's - "Stock Cars" which, when seen in old photographs, - now look more like salvaged wrecks from a scrap yard or the "Bangers" which evolved through the 1960's and were looked down on by the F1 fraternity.
Legends and Champions.
Many spectators at the BriSCA Stockcar tracks in the late 1960's will have seen
391 Stuart Smith driving the old and battered Griffin car, now rebuilt and part of the F1 Heritage collection.
That was replaced by a new built car with a design based on the
Griffin car - but with a new engine - which carried Stuart to his first World title AND im my opinion change the whole sport.
Very soon more drivers were coming out in new built cars and and most of the older and oft re-cycled "heaps" were fast vanishing from the tracks.
Apart from being responsible for the F1 Heritage Stock Cars, Keith Barber, - an extremely talented artist, was commissioned by many drivers and sponsors to paint cars.
Keith admits being swayed to big and bright after a visit to the USA and seeing the "Stock cars" over there.
396 Doug Cronshaw was perhaps the the first or among the first to get a custom paint job from a sponsor. Doug's car was seen in the pinky purple stripes
(possibly a Bradsell moment he had) of WYNNS and later in the corporate colours of
AUTO Enthusiast Magazine. Editted at the time by "The Jewish Robin Hood" Rueben Archer.
More and more cars came on track with smart cars in new paint jobs.
229 John Hillam was the first to fit a "tail fin" used in other car sports to give a down force on the back axle for better grip - others,- including
Stu Smith followed in adding them. What you see today started with these drivers being different, innovative and dedicated to their chosen sport.
This website is intended to be a photography website and offer a glimpse into the past and see todays Legends and Super Stars - when they had a white top !
The Photography here is from, what I term - The Golden Years.
